The COROZONUT is a fruit of the TAGUA coconut tree, which grows mainly near the equator in South America. The tree grows very slowly, taking about 15 years to produce fibrous fruit, which takes three to eight years to fully mature. When the fruit is fully ripe and falls to the ground, it is harvested by the locals and dried in the tropical sun for about three to four months before the gelatin ripen and turns into a hard white substance similar to ivory. The completely dried COROZONUT can be used as a substitute for real ivory products, hence the name VORYNUT by local residents. The fruit is dried and machine peeled off its hard shell, sorted according to size and quality, and then processed into a fine industrial product or carved into a desired shape.
